Sr. Java Programmer

SUMMARY

The Senior Java Programmer’s role is to design, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software solutions in support of the achievement of business requirements.  This includes designing, writing, coding, testing, and analyzing new and existing software programs and applications.  This position will require working with Business Analysts and Project Managers to define and validate functional specification and requirements, to propose best technical solution to address the needs, and to design, document, and modify technical specifications throughout the production lifecycle.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • College degree in computer science, information systems or software engineering preferred;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience;
  • Experience interviewing end-users
  • Experience with agile and scrum methodologies highly desired;
  • Experience developing test cases and test plans;
  • Experience with J2EE6, J2EE7, JBoss or Wildfly, Spring;
  • Experience with JavaScript Frameworks (backbone experience) a plus.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Excellent understanding of coding methods and best practices;
  • Knowledge of:
    • RESTful principles/development
    • Relational databases and OS knowledge with MSSQL, Windows
    • Hibernate transactional and locking mechanisms
    • Maven modules, dependency, and optimization

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications;
  • Design, run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging;
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas;
  • Liaise with IT Team to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems;
  • Generate statistics and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process;
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior team members;
  • Collaborate with internal project management team in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications;
  • Assist in the definition, development, and documentation of software’s business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments;
  • Assist in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation;
  • Analyze and assess existing business systems and procedures;
  • Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts;
  • Liaise with vendors for efficient implementation of new software products or systems and for resolution of any adaptation issues;
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
