Lead DevOps Engineer

Job Title: Lead DevOps Engineer                                                         Location: San Diego

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is designed for an innovative programming and IT infrastructure engineer that possess a strong understanding of AWS cloud strategies, virtualization, continuous delivery concepts, software deployment and automation.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining, installing and configuring web infrastructure closely collaborating with IT Infrastructure to manage a high availability environment.  Additional responsibilities include managing and mentoring one or more DevOps engineers, leading the effort to improve business continuity and transitioning a local data center based company into AWS and helping the development team transition to cloud based deployments.

This position is based in our San Diego location and works closely with the Programming and Infrastructure teams.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • A minimum of  five years of work experience in Programming or Infrastructure;
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), E2, and S3
  • Experience with Continuous Integration Tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.)
  • Experience with Infrastructure Automation (Chef, Puppet, etc.)
  • Experience working with Cloud systems –AWS a must, Azure a plus
  • Automation: Puppet, Chef, SALT, Jenkins, TeamCity
  • Virtualization: VMware and HVM on AWS
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff                                                            

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Advance technical knowledge of network and server operating systems;
  • Understanding of Java and application development;
  • Proficiency in scripting technologies such as Ruby;
  • Configuration Automation: Chef, Puppet, Ansible, etc.
  • Ability to work with internal business units and communicate regularly and effectively
  • Ability to define and define reasonable expectations and deadlines for assigned tasks

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

Scripting

  • Manage and optimize virtual infrastructure in a variety of IaaS environments: AWS, Azure
  • Continuous Delivery implementation strategies utilizing automation tools;
  • Analysis of performance data to determine pain points within our infrastructure;
  • Assist in planning and implementing scalable and reliable architecture;

Infrastructure

  • Configuration, development, optimization and monitoring of our web and service environments;
  • Manage Windows and Linux servers and services;
  • Configure and manage network nodes, load balancers, firewalls, DNS and Active Directory;
  • Complete daily operational checklist to prevent issues or outages and backup severs and their associated operating systems and software;
  • Manage security solutions, IPS, IDS, and anti-virus systems;
  • 24/7 emergency support
  • Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades and manage patches for server systems and devices on the network.

Strategy & Planning

Assist with planning, implementation and deployment of web applications, security measures, and operational system.

Leadership

  • Manage one or more DevOps Engineers
  • Mentor staff in industry best practices
  • Define and enforce process and procedure to improve quality of service and efficiency
