Devops Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is designed for an innovative programming and IT infrastructure engineer that possess a strong understanding of AWS cloud strategies, virtualization, continuous delivery concepts, software deployment and automation.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining, installing and configuring web infrastructure closely collaborating with IT Infrastructure to manage a high availability environment.  Additional responsibilities include participating in the effort to improve business continuity and transitioning a local data center based company into AWS cloud.

This position is based in our San Diego location and reports to the VP of Programming and works closely with the IT Infrastructure team.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of  3 years of work experience in Programming or IT Infrastructure
  • Experience in a DevOps role using advanced functions of AWS
  • Experience building DevOps pipelines
  • Familiarity with application monitoring tools such as App Dynamics, Splunk, ELK, Zabbix, Alertsite
  • Expertise with continuous integration using TeamCity, Jenkins, or equivalent
  • Expertise with artifact management using Artifactory or Nexus
  • Expertise with dependency management using NuGet, Maven or PiPy
  • Experience with Cloudformation, Opsworks, and CodeDeploy
  • Proficient with Chef, Powershell, Ansible, and Bash scripting
  • Software development experience using Python, or other scripting language
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, e.g., Scrum and Kanban
  • Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical domains
  • Certifications in networking, Virtualization, Microsoft, Linux distributions, Java application development technologies a plus

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Advance technical knowledge of network and server operating systems
  • Intermediate to Advance knowledge of ActiveDirectory
  • Proficient working knowledge of Java and Java Enterprise Application Servers including application development
  • Proficient working knowledge of scripting technologies and the ability to take code to production using native languages such as Ruby
  • Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws a plus
  • Solid understanding of OOP
  • Versed in Information Security such as web application firewalls, infrastructure security, static analysis tools, etc.
  • Proficient with Regular Expression
  • Experience in a regulated and HIPAA compliant environment
  • Self-motivated with a “can do” attitude

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

Programming

  • Analysis of performance data to determine pain points within our web infrastructure
  • Guide teams into DevOps/DevSecOps pipelines
  • Maintain our current extension of open source tools such as Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes Kops
  • Manage continuous integration platform (TeamCity, Jenkins, Pipelines) and artifact repositories (Nexus)
  • Automate deployments to AWS with Terraform
  • Provision and maintain Amazon resources using infrastructure code
  • Maintain legacy deployments (JBoss, Tomcat) as they sunset to new architecture
  • Maintain a global environment with multiple sites, which may require work beyond standard business hours

Infrastructure

  • Configuration, development, optimization and monitoring of our web and service environments
  • Manage Windows and Linux servers and services
  • Configure and manage network nodes, load balancers, firewalls, DNS and Active Directory
  • Complete daily operational checklist to prevent issues or outages and backup severs and their associated operating systems and software
  • Manage security solutions, IPS, IDS, and anti-virus systems
  • Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades and manage patches for server systems and devices on the network
  • Act as a liaison between Infrastructure & Programming to communicate needs and recommendations for improvement to web infrastructure
