Web Developer and Designer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Web Developer / Designer will be working with the Programming team to create websites, purchase pages, microsites and other web-based applications. This role will be producing wireframes, mockups and comps and will bring designs to life with HTML, CSS, and Javascript development. This role will also perform testing and communicate the all appropriate parties to provide feedback.

This position collaborates designers, product management, project management, front and back-end IT developers, and sales teams to produce engaging websites.

This position is based in our San Diego location and reports to the Technical Manager.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Required:

  • Minimum of five years of development/design experience
  • Strong sense of web design and an understanding of the fundamentals of user experience and cross-platform compatibility
  • Experience translating flat design comps, wireframes, and interactive prototypes into production-ready code
  • Deep knowledge of cross-browser web development- Expert level skill set working with HTML and CSS. (HTML5 and CSS3 is required)
  • Working knowledge of a modern Javascript frameworks like Backbone, AngularJS, Ember
  • Working knowledge of Git and GitFlow
  • Familiarity with XSLT, jQuery and Underscore
  • Familiarity with Javascript built tools like Gulp, Grunt or Webpack
  • Extensive experience with and understanding of JavaScript and its constructs
  • Two to three years of creating responsive websites
  • Mobile design and development skills – understanding of different mobile design patterns
  • Advanced level skills using Adobe Creative Suite/Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience working with web content management systems (CMS); administering users, workflows, permissions and developing specifications and schemas
  • Able to integrate frontend with existing J2EE backend web service endpoints
  • Ability to troubleshoot front end development and cross browser issues and provide best practice solutions.
  • Intermediate level skills working with email clients such as Silverpop or HubSpot
  • Intermediate level experience or better using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience working with an issue tracking system like JIRA or RedMine
  • Knowledge of unit testing for Javascript

Preferred:

  • Understanding and working knowledge of JSPs and JSTL tags
  • Experience working with an issue tracking system like JIRA or RedMine
  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager, Ingeniux or Wordpress
  • One to two years designing for social media and mobile platforms
  • Sharepoint designer experience                                                                                                                                                      

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned) 

Web Design & Development

  • Work closely with the team(s) on functional specifications, provide direction when needed on the UX/ UI;
  • Collaborate with our web & graphic designer and our development team to provide informed recommendations for design and layout, behavior and functionality of websites through general knowledge of UI best practices;
  • Apply critical thinking and find solutions to moderately-complex software and technological issues within the scope of the role;
  • Create and implement intuitive, functional websites, purchase pages and other web-based assets using HTML5/CSS3 to accomplish marketing goals; 
  • Create styles in content management system (CMS), and assist in administering users as needed, troubleshooting bug fixes and deploying builds;
  • Use responsive design techniques for web development across multiple platforms
  • Handle all content updates (outside of CMS) & UI/ UX changes for all existing web applications 
  • Assist in testing cross-browser, cross-platform, and/or cross-device compatibility for inconsistencies;
  • Provide support to the marketing team on existing Google Tag Manager account(s) and handling all changes/ updates to google tags as well as implementing all new tags aneeded;
  • Assists in monitoring website statistics and analyzing trends, ultimately incorporating website design changes as needed to ensure ease-of-use for customers and higher sales conversions.
